CARMEL (28 Sep, 2019) — As an internationally renowned and celebrity-endorsed successful entrepreneur, Cake Bake Shop owner Gwendoline Rogers could have worked with any contractor when creating her second location in Carmel.
With the help of local lighting leader CM Buck & Associates, Inc., Carmel’s Cake Bake Shop boasts an atmosphere that’s received rave reviews. The location recently opened to critical and public acclaim and, most importantly, achieves the impeccable image Rogers wanted to create.
Through a referral from architects at area firm Pedcor, Rogers first partnered with the local lighting design experts at CM Buck Lighting when seeking a better solution for undercounter lighting at her original Broad Ripple location.
“I had done it myself in the past and I just wanted a more professional way to have it installed,” Rogers said. “That’s how I first started working with and getting to know the team at CM Buck.”
At both Rogers’ Broad Ripple and new Carmel locations, CM Buck sales associate Kim Winship lit the path to a unique and successful relationship and Cake Bake Shop project.
“I didn’t want to repeat or just redo what I had already done in Broad Ripple. I wanted to find something better,” Rogers said. “Kim’s expertise in finding the best solutions with perfect little details for our unique applications was invaluable. Our counters and display cases are large and curved, but have tight spaces that need lit. It’s difficult to find high-quality lighting that will fit, stay in place and last for years to come. One thing Kim brought us was a special rope lighting that fits into a channel and should stay secure no matter how many guests fiddle with it along the edges of the counter. Kim and CM Buck were so helpful with lighting all of our bakery cases and undercounter areas.”
Throughout Rogers’ 154-seat Carmel expansion, lighting across the establishment’s café, bar, kitchen and bakery is designed to deliver high performance and make feel guests feel welcome and relaxed during their visit — all while matching Cake Bake Shop’s unique brand, style and look.
“Cake Bake Shop’s look is elegant and just a little bit over the top, like Disney World,” Winship said. “There are gorgeous chandeliers, lots of indirect lighting and LED lighting where we coordinated with some of Gwendoline’s decorative pieces.”
While the desserts, drinks and other culinary and confectionary creations may receive Cake Bake Shop’s top billing, Rogers asserts customers’ ultimate enjoyment relies on the space’s energy and ambiance.
“To me, lighting is the most important thing,” Rogers said. “It creates the atmosphere and drives the mood of the whole experience. Instead of can lighting or downlighting, I use chandeliers, sconces and cove lighting. My favorite fixtures are the exterior lanterns that flank the side of the building, front entrance and display windows. They’re just spectacular. I even got three smaller versions of the ones outdoors for inside the shop itself, which creates a great exterior look and feel of a bakery façade indoors.”
